Update from Sunset – August 16, 2009

We’ve now been in Lubbock for over a month and a half, and we’ve been in school for a week. The adjustment period is pretty much over – we’re starting to get on with it now.

The work load is pretty steep, but not insurmountable. We have 5 classes total – 2 that meet on Monday & Wednesday, 2 on Tuesday and Thursday, and 1 on Friday. Additionally, we have preaching and public speaking labs that meet every day except Friday, and chapel that meets every morning at 8:30. We figure we will need to study 3-4 hours each night, on average, in order to make sure that we keep up. On top of all this, we’re actually considering taking on additional courses – Bridget wants to do sign language and I’m considering taking Hebrew. Those classes meet at 7:30 each morning.

One of the things that I’ve been impressed with already is that even with all this work to do, it is crucial to take personal time with the Lord. All of this studying and preparation is meaningless if it doesn’t result in a changed life, not just greater knowledge. My prayer life has already gone to new levels in the short time we’ve been here.

For all of those who have supported us financially and continue to lift us up in prayer, we are extremely grateful. We will continue to pray for you, and let you know periodically how we are progressing.

God bless,
Donnie & Bridget

Wow!! Study 3 to 4 hours a night!!! aaannnndddddd you are considering doing Hebrews nightly at 7:30!! I am overwhelmed thinking about it. Be careful, don’t overload yourself. It’s better to master a few things than not master anything–You know what I mean. I was going to sign up for the BBI class and then I was reminded that I already have other things on my plate and most certainly I would be in overload. I am glad I was reminded. I don’t want to give advice where not asked but just consider getting acclimatized to your first semister see how you handle that than go for the gold! Please forgive me, I tend to open my mouth at times. Anyway, just a suggestion. Don’t want you to thin out yourself tooooo much. 🙂
    Be well
    God bless.

No worries Mom – your advice is always appreciated. Thanks!

And the class is at 7:30 in the *morning*, not at night…
